New Update to Google Search.
As of Wednesday June 9th, 2010, Google released an update that increased its capability of finding and displaying newly published content by 50%. This enhancement allows small business owners who leverage their websites to generate new customers deliver fresh content in half the time.
Caffeine
The update is called Caffeine, and was designed to improve Google's ability to collect and organize information published on the internet. News happens now, and Google’s old indexing strategy lacked the ability to keep up with it.
Prior to the release of Caffeine, Google conducted large bulky updates to major parts of its index. These updates required a huge amount of processing power and large chunks of time, thus reducing their frequency. With the new update, the focus is on small ongoing updates to isolated parts of the index, refreshing it quickly and constantly.
The graphics bellow shows the before and after.

What is the Google Index you ask?
For those of you who have better things to do than to read about Google indexing strategies here is a quick note defining the Index. Google’s Index is similar to that of an index in the back of any reference book. It’s used to quickly drill down to a specific section based on related terms. The thing to keep in mind is that when you search the internet, you are not searching live content. You are actually searching what Google was able to collect and indexed on its massive network.
Imagine searching for "Orange County Website Design" and expecting to find "Vanadiumtech" in the top of the search results (Shameless, I know!). Even though we have a great website and publish new content frequently, the page would not be visible in the search results unless it was part of Google's Index.
Having your pages, blogs and videos part of Google’s index is key to being found on the web and generating traffic from natural searches.
What’s the impact to your business?
It's simple: Google will be able to find your content 50% faster than it did yesterday. Adding new pages to your site, publishing blog articles, uploading videos or simply updating your current website with new content will display in search results very quickly, increasing your ability to deliver your message faster than ever before.
How can you leverage this for your business?
- Expand the content of your site to target specific key phrases for greater exposure of your business in Google.
- Add a Blog to your site, and offer your expertise about your industry by publishing articles, check lists or how to information.
- Record training sessions, seminars and other events to post on your site or YouTube.
- In general, the more content you have the more relevant you become and the greater you site will perform.
